Having grown up playing trumpet in a marching band and singing with guitar for the local open mic's, music is a gift I carry with me. Inspired by my faith, I have written a couple original songs. I also attached a cover song I played opening for a band in Steubenville Ohio at the Harmonium Project Building.
The Perfect Surrender was written to express the act of the human will in completely and utterly surrendering to the Lord. The lyrics, "You offer me, but I can't receive with hands like these, sealed.", reflect the moment of contention when pride prevents man from opening his heart to God. My other original song listed, Wooden Anchor, is a call to action for man to carry his daily cross. Christ's sanctifying death on the cross offers us the chance to achieve eternal life in Heaven by redeeming our sins. In following the Lord, we are called to take up life struggles and with an inner joy live in accord with His will. Each verse speaks of a different model and way of carrying a cross. The first verse is all about Mary, and her fiat. The second verse speaks of the donkey who carried Mary and baby Jesus to Bethlehem. The last verse climaxes to Jesus on Calvary Hill, the ultimate sacrifice of love in which Jesus lifts his wooden anchor. |
